Low Carb Dieting Tip
Your rate of metabolism dictates how many calories you burn. Heredity, gender, age, body size. diet and nutrition, activity level, and your overall health factor in on determining how high or low your metabolism is. It is normal for metabolism levels to lower as a person ages. Because of this it is important to begin stepping up your exercise routines in your thirties and forties.
Ways to Boost Your Metabolism
Eat Regularly – Eating 5-6 small meals throughout the day will give you energy throughout the day–helping you to burn calories. Whereas, calories eaten during larger meals tend to get stored as fat.
Maintain a Balanced Diet – Not only how often you eat is important, but your food choices are equally as important. Nurture you body with the appropriate balance of protein and carbs.
Eating whole foods rather than processed food gives your digestive system a workout that burns calories. For example: choose an apple over apple juice.
Workout with Weights – Building muscle mass will replace stored fat. As you build muscle tissue your metabolism increases.
Don’t Forget Cardio – You need to get that heart rate up and breathe a little heavier. Twenty to thirty minutes of cardiovascular activity 5 days a week is recommended. Brisk walking or swimming are good. Or utilize exercise equipment (exercise bike, treadmill, or elliptical trainer)
Fruits and vegetables are clearly an important part of a good diet. Almost everyone can benefit from eating more of them, but variety is as important as quantity. No single fruit or vegetable provides all of the nutrients you need to be healthy. The key lies in the variety of different fruits and vegetables that you eat.
Some basic fruit and vegetable tips:
•Try to eat more fruits and vegetables. If you need 2,000 calories a day to maintain your weight and health, aim for at least nine servings (4½ cups) a day.
•Choose a variety of different fruits and vegetables. It’s easy to get into a rut when it comes to the food you eat. Break out and try a wider variety – include dark-green, leafy vegetables; yellow, orange, and red fruits and vegetables; cooked tomatoes; and citrus fruits.
- Some people are genetically inclined to put on weight.
- Some people have medical conditions such as sleep apnea or lipid problems.
- Physicians have very little training in nutrition and weight management.
- Media promotes an unhealthy diet. Media fails to disclose helpful health and dietary information. Media makes money by blaming fat people for their condition.
- Diet Programs are proven to be ineffective over a period of one year or more. (Atkins, calorie restricted diets, gastric bypass, Medically supervised diets)
- Healthy food is simply unavailable at stores in inner cities such as Detroit.
- Our culture promotes an unhealthy diet and lifestyle, including fast food and a lack of reflection and introspection.
MSG is added to rat food to make them obese. How do you suppose MSG affects humans?
I agree with the person that said that there is a difference between being overweight and obese. One of my family members is overweight. She has struggled with an underactive thyroid since having children. She eats so healthily and exercises regularly and is losing weight, but so slowly. And the help she has been offered? A nurse who told her that she can’t be eating a healthy diet and exercising or she wouldn’t still be overweight, e.g. a nurse who knew nothing about her condition and assumed that she must be stuffing her face with takeaways every day and lying on the sofa watching t.v.
So yes sometimes overweight people can have an excuse, usually medical issues combined with lack of support.
I think the other main problem with people who are overweight is lack of education. How many people know what a healthy portion size is, how many calories they should eat and what is a high percentage of fat in their food? Often, there is no excuse, only laziness (in exercising and in preparing healthy meals) and lack of motivation or discipline.
Yours is an interesting question and I think there are so many factors contributing to obesity, which vary between people.
What has been the best diet program for you? (ie. South Beach, WW, Jenny Craig)
If it helps Im 5’9 and about 195 pounds, male, and really need to lose some weight.
The best one depends on what you need in a program. For instance, WW offers a plan and support meetings, but you have a lot of flexibility in what you can eat. Nutrisystem has pre-made meals so if you just eat what they send you, you should succeed – no planning on your part but no flexibility either. South Beach is very strict the first couple of weeks – great if that works for you but a lot of people give up. Research the plans and try to pick one that you think would work for you.
You could try on your own. Cut out all fast food, donuts, chips, etc. and eat more veggies and fruits. Then be more active – start walking, work your way up to jogging or going to the gym. Exercise for 30 minutes at least 5 days a week. And don’t just sit in your room or on the computer – get out and do some active stuff.
Over the course of the past three decades, a significant number of scientific studies have demonstrated that a person’s diet can work to prevent some types of cancer. One diet regimen that appears to have beneficial effects at preventing cancer is the Mediterranean diet plan.
If you are interested in developing health eating routines and want to engage a diet program that can work to reduce the risk of certain types of cancer, you should take a look at the Mediterranean diet. In this regard, there are seven points that you should ponder when it comes to the impact of the Mediterranean diet on reducing the risk of cancer.
Seven Points to Ponder: The Mediterranean Diet and Cancer Risks
A Trans-European study undertaken by the European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition demonstrated that people who closely adhere to Mediterranean dietary schemes were significantly less likely to succumb to cancer than were people who followed other Diet Programs. In fact, the study suggests that the mortality rate from cancer of men and women who follow the Mediterranean diet is an astonishing twenty-five percent less than the mortality rate of people who are involved in other dietary practices.
A significant number of people participated in the European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition study. In fact, there were 22,000 people enrolled in the study in Greece alone.
While it is not conclusively demonstrated that the Mediterranean diet is effective at reducing the risks of all types of cancer, preliminary results of various research studies suggest that there may be no types of cancer that are left unaffected by this diet scheme. Indeed, historical evidence suggests that the incidents of all types of cancer in the Mediterranean Sea region is less than what is found in other areas around the world.
In order to enjoy the cancer reduction benefits of the Mediterranean diet, it is important that a person follow all of the dining regiments of the program. In other words, a person can not pick and choose the components of the Mediterranean diet that he or she might favor or enjoy. Rather, in order to obtain the full cancer reduction benefits of the Mediterranean diet, a person need to embrace all aspects of the regimen.
Statistics and research suggest that the longer a person follows the Mediterranean diet, the less of a risk of developing cancer such a person will face. In other words, the Mediterranean diet appears to have a cumulative effect on a person’s health.
While researchers believe that it is the combination of elements that comprise the Mediterranean diet that reduce the risk of cancer, the program is particularly helpful in reducing the risk of this disease because it is low in saturated fat, high in fresh fruits, vegetables and whole grains, and low in fatty, red meats.
Keep in mind that while diet is proven to impact the incidence of cancer, other healthy living practices are also important. In this regard, a person should exercise regularly. Additionally, if you are a smoker, you need to quit.
By understanding the interrelationship between diet and disease, a person can take steps that may effectively reduce his or her risk of cancer, heart disease and other serious ailments. The Mediterranean diet is proving itself an effective method of reducing the risks of a number of different diseases, including various types of cancer.

Exercise plays a key role in helping you to lose weight and stay fit. There are two kinds of exercise you need to be aware of and implement. These include aerobic exercise and strength training. Both are important and have their own unique benefits. Aerobic exercise helps to burn calories right away and increase your overall metabolism. Strength training helps to add vital muscle mass which will then increase your overall strength levels and also increase your metabolism since muscle burns calories continuously.
Diet plays about eighty percent of the role in your weight loss program while exercise contributes the balance twenty percent. Both are needed to lose weight and maintain it. The weight loss industry is one of the most abused and commercialized industries around. People have been cashing in on the weight loss industry primarily because there are people who are gullible enough to believe the myths that money makers have created to make their products and services sell.
It is funny how a society that spends millions in junk food is more than willing to also spend millions just to find that perfect weight loss program. The harried life everybody is leading has paved the way for the proliferation of fast food joints that offer greasy and admittedly mouth-watering food that can easily add inches to any tummy.
Any person can get fat if he is living a sedentary lifestyle coupled with bouts of binging. Take the case of Corinne, a 30-year old graduate school student who has to sit down most part of the day studying. Corinne started to worry about her weight but she could not help but eat and eat unhealthy foods especially when studying. The more she feels pressured by her exams the more she has to binge.
The sad part is that she can never take time to exercise even for an hour. Her day is spent eating, studying and sitting down. Plus of course, the most part is spent worrying about what diet to implement to get her curves back.
Corrine and other people who lead unhealthy lifestyles lead the way in increasing the obesity statistics of the world. They know that there is a problem and yet they are seeking the wrong solution. It is not easy to lose weight and there are no special Diet Programs that can make a person lose weight permanently.
But there is a very simple formula to lose weight and keep the fat off. Any person who eats the right kind of food and who does regular exercise will definitely not get fat. Keeping to this routine can help a person keep the flab off permanently.
To eat right means to choose healthy food most the time. It does not mean that a person has to restrict his diet to non fat food all the time because the body needs the good cholesterol to regulate the liver.
If you want to achieve a healthy diet and keep off the fat for a long time if not permanently then eat the right kinds of food. Incorporate healthy snacks such as raw almonds, sunflower seeds, and fruit. Eat more vegetables than you do now, and eat as many of them raw as possible. Do not starve yourself because that can lead to nutrition imbalance and can even lead to binging.
It is also important to lead a healthy life by getting the proper exercise that you can do even considering your busy lifestyle. Taking a walk around the neighborhood is good not only for the body but also for the mind. If you are not accustomed to exercising, I recommend you start slowly. Being with first identifying what activities you enjoy. It may be walking in the park, playing tennis, or jogging. Make your activity as fun for you as possible. Start with 20 minutes a day, three times a week and build it up. You will find that you will feel better about yourself and be more productive overall.
Eating all you want is one of the most satisfying pleasures. Unfortunately excess weight often goes hand in hand with the joys of eating. It is very difficult for you to take off and keep off that excess weight they acquire with time. This article will emphasize on how to choose the best Diet Program for losing weight.
There are so many fad diets available in the health market. But none of them work in the long run for the vast majority of people who try them. In fact, each new diet actually creates the demand for its successor. Millions may try a popular diet, even stick to if faithfully for a few weeks or months, and lose some weight, but sooner or later they tire of following someone else’s formula, go off the diet, return to their old eating habits and regain the weight.
Taking off weight should not be a temporary thing. It has to become a way of life –sensible eating and exercising habits that eventually become second nature to the person concerned. Mild changes in eating habits can help one lose weight over a period of time.
One must consider portion sizes too. If a person loves a particular high calorie dish, it can be tough doing without it. An easier way is to have a smaller serving. One should prepare small pieces of meat, for example, and eat more vegetables and salad. Cooking methods also count. Whenever possible, foods should be broiled, basked, steamed or boiled – and fat to be trimmed away before cooking. The flavor of cooked foods can be enhanced without fat, by adding herbs or dry wine.
Exercise is also important for weight control, health and for staying trim and slim lifelong. It need not be extremely vigorous to be valuable. One can jog, cycle or play handball. In all these, one will be expending 6-9 calories a minute. If these are done for 20 minutes a day, you can burn up as many as 180 calories. One can also take up lighter exercises.
Some tips to eat less include:
• Drink more water
• Take more time and eat leisurely
• If there is no time to eat a leisurely meal, don’t eat!
• Eat more fiber rich, unrefined foods.
Overweight develops slowly over the years. One gets fat because of those extra calories that one sops up day by day beyond those one’s body needs. To stay slim for life must be the aim and this can be achieved by exercise and diet – both practiced in a consistent and regular way.
There are some diet programs designed keeping in mind that a diet plan should be created in such a way that it can help you lose weight without sacrificing your health.
