Hi,
I just started my HCG diet yesterday, and I’m in day 2 (the final day) of loading; Tomorrow I start the VLCD. I am wondering, is it possible to do this diet while also doing the cabbage soup diet? Like, instead of eating things off the HCG menu, is it possible to eat cabbage soup instead? I know that when I used the drops, I didn’t follow the diet exactly, but I stayed under 500 calories and lost weight; now I’m doing the injections (medically supervised) and I don’t want to mess up and do cabbage soup because these shots cost me a pretty penny and I’d hate to throw a few thousand dollars away…but I really need to lose this stubborn weight. I’m desperate, and 1200 cals a day and exercise wasn’t yielding the results I wanted.
I don’t want to read people bashing either diet. I know there are going to be naysayers, but really, this is Yahoo Answers; I came here to find a legit answer to my question, and if you can’t weigh in (no pun intended) on the situation properly and respectfully, you can freely answer some other question posted by some other user.
I want to hear people who’ve actually done the HCG protocol and/or those who’ve altered the protocol and still lost weight, or people who’ve mixed HCG and cabbage soup, like I want to.

I know the HCG diet and the cabbage soup diets are quick fixes; I know I can’t do either one forever. I just want to kick start my weight loss, then (in 38 days) I’m going to higher a personal trainer to get the body I truly want.
I’d only do the cabbage soup diet for 2 weeks (the reccommended amount of time to do it), and then I’d follow the HCG meal plan. I really just want to use the HCG to suppress my appetite, to make restricting my calories easier.
Hello! Actually, HCG is not an appetite suppressant that makes restricting calories easier. It is a naturally produced hormone that instructs your fat cells to release nutrient-filled fat into your system where it is used and eliminated at the rate of 2000-3000 calories per day. HCG only works on abnormal fat, not structural fat or muscle tissue, unlike ANY other diet on the planet.
Just like you could not simply eat 500 calories and lose weight healthily, you cannot take HCG and eat "off protocol" foods and lose weight. HCG ONLY works when combined with a precise diet protocol, which includes no sugar, chemical sweetener, additives, oils, starches, etc. And, just as important, no more than 500 calories per day.
Some people may try to convince you that you can eat more, but nobody has done anywhere near the research and case study that Dr. Simeons did on this, so there is no long-term basis in fact – it’s just opinion.
And to address your comment about "quick fix", the beauty of the HCG protocol is that it’s the only diet that is NOT a quick fix. In fact, many experts consider it a weight loss cure, and no other diet can claim that. The reason is that the combination of HCG and the food protocol works with your hypothalamus to create a new metabolism and a new setpoint weight. That means your body processes excess differently than it did at your higher weight, and it will be harder to gain than if you just lost weight and didn’t re-set your metabolism.
That’s not saying you can sit back and eat 5000 calories a day and not gain weight. It means that you can eat "normally" without giving up your favorite foods and stay within a 2 lb range. Over the course of the protocol, many people get a better understanding of what "normal" eating is.
You absolutely cannot do the HCG Protocol without support and having the right information in front of you. If you attempt it and don’t do it the right way, any weight you lose will come right back – if you lose any at all. Plus, if you do it the right way, the weight comes off fast and STAYS off!
Without exception, real HCG (drops or shots), combined with the correct foods, enough water, and oil-free personal care products, WILL produce weight loss at the rate of 3-10 lbs per week. It’s physiology 101, and you’ll see that when you read Pounds & Inches.
